Built in 1912 as the Guild Hall of the local Episcopal congregation.
The building also served the Sandpoint community as a gathering place
for parties, civic affairs, luncheons and dinners.
In 1957, needing more space, the mission purchased a section of
hospital from the U.S. Navy at Farragut Naval Station which was at the
far south end of Lake Pend Oreille. The building was barged north to
Dover just west of Sandpoint on the Pend Oreille river, then trucked to
its present location.
The most recent change occurred in june 2007 when the Episcopal Church
moved out and into a new facility, and the Redtail Gallery moved in. It oficially opened on july 27, 2007 with the first exhibition featuring the paintings of Robert Bissett and the Sculpture of Mark
Kubiak.
about the gallery
The Redtail Gallery is the result of a long held dream. A fine arts
gallery in combination with an arts education center, in this case the
Arts Alliance.
The mission of Redtail Gallery is to provide residents and visitors to
Sandpoint and the surrounding area with a high quality visual arts
experience. The Gallery's exhibition standard is to provide an
exhibiting artist the opportunity to display a body of their work,
thereby giving the viewer a more in-depth look at the artist, their
style, inspiration, and development.
It is also the goal of Redtail Gallery in association with the Arts
Alliance to provide the community with an opportunity for residents
and visitors to develop their artistic impulses through workshops and
classes.
It is our firm belief that exercising our minds through the creative
arts by viewing, or in the Studio, can enrich and broaden our view of
the world, and open our minds to the boundless realms of human
expression.
